The Mausoleum was created for Skanka Loss 2011 (also known as the Gagnef Festival), in collaboration with Petr Davydtchenko. This festival, set along the scenic banks of Dalälven in Gagnef, Sweden, brings together an eclectic blend of music, art, and culture.
In this work, we aimed to evoke a sense of mystery that resonated with the dreamlike landscapes of Dalarna. The structure, inspired by the concept of a mausoleum – a place of memory – commemorated an event that took place six months prior in the majestic mountain region of the Great Mountains in Poland. To heighten the impact of that memory, we installed a recorded sound from the mountain summit within the sealed walls of the structure. The resulting deep, vibrating sound was a mere echo of the wind, an atmospheric blur that enhanced the installation’s haunting presence.
